Johanna Wekar
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been in practice for over 20 years. I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also specialize in ACT, DBT-PE and CBT. I enjoy working with older adolescents, adults and seniors. I work with a variety of presenting problems including depression, anxiety, PTSD, maladaptive behaviors and dysregulated emotions.
I have supervised and trained other clinicians utilizing DBT. I also am trained in the Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work and Bringing Home Baby. I have trained through Level 2 of the Gottman Method. I am an LGBTQIA ally.
I am only providing Teletherapy. I am a warm, collaborative, down-to-earth clinician with a straight-forward and validating approach.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a compassionate, evidence-based type of cognitive behavioral treatment for individuals who have significant difficulty regulating emotions and behaviors.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that stems from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.

The Gottman Method for Healthy Relationships is a form of couples-based therapy. One of the major tenets of the Gottman Method is that couples require five times more positive interactions than negative, as negative emotions, like defensiveness and contempt, hurt a relationship more than positive ones heal.
